Looking at the major COVID-19 infected cases which have been affecting adversely to pregnant women and children, Parbat Gurung(Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens) said, “the government would set up separate quarantine facility for the pregnant and post-partum women rescued from the third countries.”
On Sunday, in a virtual meeting with experts, he also mentioned that they have already prepared social organizations to arrange quarantine facilities for the pregnant and post-partum women. Parbat Gurung further explained that “the special priority had been given to the safety of women, children, senior citizens, disabled and vulnerable people.”
During the meeting, women activists like Chandani Joshi, Renu Adhikari, Laxmi Karki, Radha Poudel and Lily Thapa asked Minister Gurung to arrange separate quarantine centers for women with facilities. They also asked the government to safeguard thousands of women and children while they are quarantined.
Hopefully their words come to action and pregnant women are given good care. As more than 60,000 pregnant women are having a difficult time because of the spread of the virus. Likewise, many death of pregnant women due to the COVID-19 complications was also reported.
