Kathmandu, May 30: The government has said that all citizens will have access to drinking water within the next two years.
In the Parliament building at New Baneshwar, Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada made the announcement while presenting the budget for 2077/78 BS in both the houses of the federal parliament.
According to him, drinking water will come in the coming year as the basic work of Melamchi drinking water has been completed. A budget of Rs. 5 billion has been allocated for Melamchi drinking water.
This year, drinking water will be provided in all the state capitals for the operation of reservoir drinking water. Similarly, schemes worth Rs. 6 billion will be implemented in irrigation and dry areas.
He said that Rs 1.99 billion has been allocated for the development of drinking water in Kathmandu.
Drinking water resources and watershed areas will be developed and for that, a campaign will be launched to make drinking water of Terai Madhes arsenic free.
A sum of Rs. 43 billion has been allocated for the provision of drinking water and sewerage in coordination with the federal, state and local levels.
One thousand three hundred megawatts of electricity will be added to the national transmission line. Arun, Tamakoshi hydropower process will be taken forward with the investment of Nepal’s water people.
Four billion has been allocated for rural electrification. Fifty thousand biogas is mentioned in the budget.
