Dambar Bahadur Malla, ward chair of Chaurjahari Municipality-8 has been arrested by the police. Along with him, fifteen others related to the death of three youths in Rukum West have been taken into custody.
So incident as per the reports was: Nawaraj BK, aged 21, residents of Bheri Municipality-4 in Jajarkot had gone meet a girl he loved (17) to Soti of Chaurjahari Municipality-8 in Rukum West. On Saturday, He went there with 18 of his friends. The group was attacked by girls’ families, Malla and villagers while their entry into the village. During this scenario, villagers forced Nawaraj and the other five to jump into the Bheri River. When locals were asked about it, they said that the group was attacked because they belonged to the lower cast and wanted to take away a girl who belonged to the upper caste. Nevertheless, Girls’ family accused him to forcefully take the underage girl away regardless of the family’s denial.
3 bodies- Nawaraj BK, Tikaram Sunar and Ganesh Budha was found from the river and the other three bodies of Lokendra Sunar, Govinda Shahi and Sandeep BK are still missing. As per the data, Nawaraj and Ganesh were from Bheri-4 while Tikaram was from Chaurjahari Municipality-1 of Rukum West.
Sudeep Khadka of Bheri Municipality-4 of Jajarkot, one of those who has come into contact with police, has been seriously injured in the incident, informed police.
On Monday evening, families of the group protested in front of the Jajarkot District Police. They also demanded swift investigation into the case, search for the missing persons, and justice for the caste-based violence. Additionally, they said that they will not accept the bodies until truthful investigation is conducted and justice is showered.
Chief of Jajarkot District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kishore Kumar Shrestha stated that bodies have been brought to Jajarkot District Hospital for post mortem and police are undergoing an investigation into the case.
