Since the emergence of Covid-19, the world is facing a serious economic and health threat. The pandemic did no good to travel industry as well. UNWTO predicts that there might be a fall in international tourism ranging from 60-80% over whole year, depending on the spread of virus. The record of 22 % fall in tourism has already been on files.
It’s been in headlines, a place in Nepal called Chitwan has barred the tourism. A place in Chitwan called Sauraha which has main tourist attraction has closed its hotel until Dashain. The president of RHAC responded to this situation by stating that it better to close hotels than to run them on losses. He added, ‘So we have decided to keep our hotels shut till Dashain.’
UNWTO is trying its best to figure out the travel plans for the country. They are planning 3 future scenario to open up international border. Also, anticipating a sign of recovery from 2021. As, as soon as the spread of the virus is under control we might see people travelling to meet their families and relatives. There might be more of leisure travel plans than that of business plans.
Summarizing the travel loss: losing 850 million -1.1 billion international tourist, loss of 910 billion dollars to 1.2 trillion dollars in export revenues, 100 to 120 million people risking their jobs in tourism.
